Increased State Police Patrols and DUI Checkpoints On New Years Eve.

Kentucky State Police will begin increased patrols Wednesday night.  Police say they plan to spend the last day of 2009 looking for drunken and law-breaking drivers.  In Lexington and other central Kentucky cities, increased patrols and DUI checkpoints will be utilized in an effort to stop drunk drivers before they kill innocent victims.

Officers will also be looking for speeders, distracted driver and people not wearing seat belts.

The death toll on Kentucky's roads and interstates (I-75 and I-64) is about 50 fewer than it was this time last year and authorities want to keep it that way.  Increased patrols will continue through Sunday.
