Edwards v. Jones, III

Edwards, 59, was passenger in a motor vehicle  that was rear-ended.  As a result, Edwards suffered either a cynovial cyst or exacerbation of a cynovial cyst in the facet joint at L4-5, requiring several spinal surgeries that included a lumbar fusion.  She incurred about $312,400 in medical expenses.  A substance abuse counselor who did volunteer word in her free time, Edward earned about $35,000 annually.  Edwards who has not been able to work or volunteer following her first surgery, claimed about $81,000 in past lost wages and more than $188,000 in anticipated future wages.

 

Edwards sued the driver of the other vehicle and his employer, a county government.  The plaintiff alleged failure to keep proper lookout.  A jury awarded plaintiff $1.8 million, paid by the county.
