What is a letter of protection used for?

A: Occasionally, people are lacking any health insurance coverage or their PIP benefits have been depleted.  When this occurs, medical facilities and doctors will usually accept a detailed "letter of protection" or medical lien which is a document that will allow the patient to continue their necessary treatment without having to pay for it until a later date.  Often, there is no reimbursement made until the patient reaches a full recovery.

However, Hurt, Crosbie and May does advise our clients that if the case is not resolved favorably, a letter of protection on file does not exempt them from any legal responsibility for paying these bills.
